The annual “Victorian Mosque Open Day”, guided by the Islamic Council of Victoria (ICV), will be back on the 25th of February!
The Geelong Mosque and over 37 mosques will open their doors to wider Geelong communities on Sunday, the 25th of February 2024, from 10 am to 02 pm.
This event provides an opportunity to welcome local neighbours, schools, businesses, neighbouring faith groups, Aboriginal community groups and more to participating Mosques.
In light of persistent and growing Islamophobia and harmful misinformation, come and learn about the Muslim community from the source!
Like so many others, the Victorian Muslim community is deeply hurt because of the war on Gaza. This year, we will be acknowledging our brothers and sisters by incorporating a Palestinian theme into the broader purpose of mutual respect, understanding, and inclusiveness.
The day at the Geelong Mosque will feature tours, complimentary refreshments, children’s arts and crafts activities, a chance to try hijab and henna, and an opportunity to observe prayer in the Mosque. There will be a special program starting at 12:30 pm and finishing at 02:00 pm, where dignitaries are invited to share their thoughts.
The Geelong Mosque has a daily congregation of 50 people, and on Friday prayers, it attracts more than 400 worshippers. Its unusual classical architecture draws visitors from schools and the public annually. The Mosque’s open attitude and its people contribute to fostering interfaith and intercultural understanding in the local community.
