📖 The Virtue of Coming Early to Jumu‘ah
🌿 From the Qur’an
Allah ﷻ says:
“O you who believe! When the call is proclaimed for the prayer on Friday, hasten to the remembrance of Allah and leave off trade. That is better for you, if you only knew.”
(Surah al-Jumu‘ah 62:9)
🔹 This verse shows the obligation of attending Jumu‘ah and the virtue of hastening to it—leaving behind worldly distractions.
🌸 From the Hadith
- Angels Recording the Order of Arrival
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“When Friday comes, the angels sit at the doors of the mosque and record the people in order of their arrival: the one who comes early is like one who offers a camel (for sacrifice), then like one who offers a cow, then a ram, then a chicken, then an egg. When the imam comes out (to deliver the khutbah), the angels roll up their scrolls and listen to the reminder.”
— Sahih al-Bukhari (929), Sahih Muslim (850)
🔹 The earlier you come, the greater your reward, measured as if you gave valuable sacrifices.
- Walking to Jumu‘ah and Listening Attentively
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever does ghusl on Friday, then goes (early), arriving early, walking and not riding, sits close to the imam, listens attentively and does not engage in idle speech—he will have for every step the reward of fasting and praying qiyam for one year.”
— Sunan al-Tirmidhi (496), Ibn Majah (1087); graded Hasan
🔹 Coming early, walking humbly, and listening quietly bring unimaginable rewards—equal to a year of fasting and night prayers with every step.
- Ghusl and Best Conduct on Jumu‘ah
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever performs ghusl on Friday, purifies himself as much as he can, uses oil or perfume, then goes out and does not separate two people (in the mosque), then prays what is written for him, then remains silent when the imam speaks, his sins between that Friday and the next will be forgiven.”
— Sahih al-Bukhari (883), Sahih Muslim (857)
🔹 Early preparation with cleanliness, perfume, and good conduct increases the virtue of Jumu‘ah attendance.
🌟 Reflections
Coming early shows love for Allah’s remembrance.
It brings immense rewards—equivalent to sacrifice and worship for years.
It purifies sins between two Fridays.
