MEET OUR NEW IMAM

    The Islamic Society of Geelong (ISG) is pleased to announce our new Imam, Shaykh Moaaz Al Hawari!

    Shaykh Moaaz Al Hawari has joined the ISG as our Head Imam, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience in Islamic theology, Fiqh, Hadith and more.

    We are excited to work with Shaykh Moaaz Al Hawari and hope that his presence will help to enliven our Mosque community and build the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood, inshaAllah.

    BACKGROUND & QUALIFICATIONS:

    Master’s in Tafsir & ʿUlūm al-Qur’an (Excellent GPA 3.76) – MEDIU, Malaysia

    Bachelor’s in Islamic Sciences (Hadith) – Al-Azhar University, Egypt

    Diploma in Information Technology – (Australia)

    EXPERIENCES:

    Over 20 years of international experience in Islamic education, daʿwah, and community leadership across Australia, Malaysia, the Middle East, and the Philippines.

    Former Imam and Chaplain in Townsville and Canberra, serving the Muslim community in prayer leadership, counselling, and youth mentoring.

    Executive Director of Mensahe TV (Philippines), producing Islamic educational media and daʿwah programs for global audiences.

    Speaker, khatīb, and lecturer, delivering Friday sermons, conferences, and community programs on Qur’an, Hadith, and contemporary issues.

    Curriculum developer of Qur’an memorisation programs, Tajwīd textbooks, and Islamic studies resources for schools and community organisations.

    “My mission is to teach the Qur’an and Sunnah with sincerity and clarity, nurturing hearts to love Allah ﷻ, follow His Messenger ﷺ, and serve humanity with compassion.”

    GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

    To serve the Muslim community by teaching the Qur’an and Sunnah with clarity, authenticity, and love.

    To empower the next generation of Muslims with strong faith, sound knowledge, and practical skills to live Islam confidently in the modern world.

    To promote unity and compassion, building bridges between cultures and communities through education, dialogue, and service.

    To leave behind a legacy of beneficial knowledge (ʿilm nāfiʿ) through books, media, and educational programs that continue to guide and inspire even after this life.
